how do you make a song file? do you need special software or something to get your songs that you sing onto the computer? do you sing into a microphone or just near the computer? and do you make it on a cd and then do something with a cd or just do it directly to the computer?

Have you gone and read the links people have already given you?

You don't really need any 'special' software, Just something that can record you playing and singing to your computer. Go to Recording Your Music to see some recommended programs for this purpose.

Yes you will need a microphone to get the sound onto your computer.

Once you have recorded with one of the programs mentioned at Recording Your Music, and saved it, the file will be on your computer.

You can then UPLOAD that song file to your songs. Go to Song Guide for information on that.

I don't know if there is a device that can record to a CD, but if you have something like that, you can of course read the CD from the computer, and copy the files and maybe turn them into MP3s or OGG-files.

well...i was thinking more along the lines of how you can get something from a cd to an ipod, but...
do you need a special kind of mike to connect it to the computer?
sorry i'm asking all these questions, i just really want to do this but it's kind of confusing.
also...my computer has a "dell jukebox" thing on it that i listen to songs with...would that be useable to record songs?

If you connect a Mic to your computer (you just plug the things in to the relevant socket and they work) and open a new file on a program that you can record with then there should be some kind of response to the input that the program is getting from the mic, like on audacity you get a picture of the wave-form (if thats the right term). That way you know that it is working, then you'd just click "record" :D
